Sclerotherapy
Smooth, beautiful legs. Confidence that shines through.
At LKN Fountain of Youth, we know that healthy, beautiful legs can make a big difference in how you feel—both physically and emotionally. That’s why we offer Sclerotherapy, a highly effective treatment for unwanted spider veins and small varicose veins.

Why Our Patients Choose Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is ideal for anyone looking to restore the beauty of their legs while addressing the discomfort or self-consciousness that unwanted veins can cause.
How Sclerotherapy Work
Sclerotherapy involves the injection of a specialized solution directly into the targeted vein. This solution causes the vein to collapse and gradually fade as the body naturally reabsorbs it. Over time, treated veins disappear, leaving smoother, more even-toned legs.
Our medical experts focus on precision and safety to ensure optimal results while minimizing discomfort.
Sclerotherapy FAQs
Who is a good candidate?
Most adults with spider veins or small varicose veins are candidates. Patients with larger varicose veins or certain medical conditions may require evaluation before treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
Most patients require 2–4 sessions, spaced a few weeks apart, depending on the number and size of veins being treated.
Does it hurt?
Discomfort is usually minimal. Some patients feel a brief pinch or stinging during injection. Compression stockings after treatment help with comfort and healing.
Is there downtime?
Downtime is minimal. You can resume most daily activities immediately, though walking is encouraged, and strenuous exercise may be limited for a short period.
When will I see results?
Veins typically begin to fade within 3–6 weeks for smaller veins and 3–4 months for larger veins. Multiple treatments may be necessary for optimal results.
Are there side effects?
Temporary redness, bruising, or mild swelling can occur, but serious complications are rare when performed by a trained medical professional.
How long do results last?
Treated veins are permanently removed, though new veins may develop over time. Maintenance sessions can help keep legs looking their best.
Pre- and Post-Procedure Instructions
Pre-Procedure Instructions
Goal: Optimize comfort and minimize bruising, hyperpigmentation, or inflammation.
1. One Week Before Treatment
-
Avoid blood-thinning medications or supplements, if medically approved by your physician:
-
Aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil®, Motrin®), naproxen (Aleve®)
-
Vitamin E, fish oil, ginkgo biloba, garlic, or ginseng
-
-
Avoid alcohol and smoking for 48 hours prior to treatment — both can impair healing.

No sun exposure or tanning on the legs before your appointment.
-
Do not shave or use lotion on the legs the day of your procedure.
-
Inform your provider if you are:
-
Pregnant, nursing, or planning pregnancy

Experiencing infection, swelling, or wounds near the treatment area

Bring compression stockings (20–30 mmHg or as recommended) to your appointment — you’ll wear them immediately afterward.
Day of Treatment

Wear loose, comfortable clothing — shorts are ideal for access to your legs.

Do not apply lotion, oil, or self-tanner on the treatment area.
-
Bring your compression stockings for post-procedure wear.
-
Expect multiple small injections — a mild burning or tingling sensation is normal.

Post-Procedure Instructions
Goal: Promote proper healing and maximize treatment results.
1. Immediately After Treatment
-
Compression stockings must be worn continuously for at least 24 hours, then during the day for 7–14 days (or as directed).
This improves vein closure and reduces bruising and pigmentation. -
Walk for 10–15 minutes immediately after the procedure — light walking several times daily is encouraged.
-
Do not sit or stand still for long periods the first few days.
-
Avoid hot baths, saunas, or hot tubs for 48 hours.
-
Do not apply ice packs or heat directly to treated veins unless instructed.
2. For the First Week
-
Avoid:
-
Strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, or high-impact workouts for 3–5 days
-
Sun exposure or tanning (may cause dark spots on treated areas)
-
Air travel or prolonged sitting (for 72 hours if possible)
-
-
Keep compression stockings on during the day, removing them at night unless otherwise instructed.
-
Expect mild bruising, redness, or itching — this usually resolves within days.
-
Small lumps or hardened veins may persist temporarily as part of the healing process.
3. Long-Term Care
-
Treated veins typically fade within 3–6 weeks for small vessels and up to 3–4 months for larger ones.
-
Multiple sessions may be needed for optimal results.
-
Maintain sun protection on treated areas to prevent pigmentation.
-
Continue light exercise like walking to promote circulation.
