Pre- and Post-Procedure Instructions
Pre-Procedure Instructions
Goal: Minimize bruising and swelling, and ensure safe, effective collagen stimulation.
1. 5–7 Days Before Treatment

Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements, if approved by your physician:

Aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil®, Motrin®), naproxen (Aleve®)
-
Fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, garlic, ginseng, or St. John’s Wort
-

Avoid alcohol for at least 24–48 hours before treatment.

Do not schedule dental work, laser, microneedling, or chemical peels within 2 weeks of your appointment.

Notify your provider if you:

Have a history of autoimmune disease, keloid formation, or excessive scarring

Are taking blood thinners, steroids, or have had recent vaccinations
-
Are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have an active skin infection

Hydrate well — start increasing your water intake 2–3 days before treatment.
2. Day of Procedure

Arrive with clean skin — no makeup, lotion, sunscreen, or skincare products.

Eat a light meal or snack before your appointment to avoid lightheadedness.

Avoid alcohol and caffeine for at least 12 hours.

Dress comfortably to allow easy access to the treatment area.

You may apply a cold pack before injection if you tend to bruise easily.

Post-Procedure Instructions
Goal: Encourage proper collagen formation, minimize swelling and nodules, and support optimal, natural-looking results.
1. Immediately After Treatment

Mild redness, swelling, or tenderness at injection sites is normal and typically resolves within 24–48 hours.

Bruising may occur and usually resolves in several days.

Do not apply makeup or skincare for at least 12–24 hours unless approved by your provider.

Apply cool compresses (10 minutes at a time) as needed for swelling..
2. For the First Few Days

Avoid:

Intense exercise, saunas, steam rooms, or hot tubs for 24–48 hours

Sun exposure or tanning until redness and swelling have resolved

Dental procedures, facials, or massage (other than your Sculptra massage) for 1 week

Keep hydrated: Drink plenty of water daily — hydration enhances results.

Sleep with your head elevated the first night if you experience swelling.
When to Contact Your Provider

Significant or worsening pain, redness, or swelling after 3 days

Hard lumps, nodules, or asymmetry that persist beyond 2 weeks

Blanching, dusky skin color, or severe bruising
